Delta: 161Trado-Medical Practitioners Claim Cure To Ebola

In the wake of Ebola Virus Disease, no fewer than 161 trado-medical practitioners across Delta State, have claimed cure for the virus. Their claims are through paid advertisements on local newspapers and radio stations since the deadly disease entered into the country via late Liberian, Mr. Patrick Sawyer. Although, they have not come out in the open in their claims, sources say that these practitioners have allegedly opened avenues to make money as well as advertise their products. Following the adverts in the community newspapers, the state government last Thursday described the claim as fake and ploy to extort money from the public. Speaking to our correspondent, the special adviser to the governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Rukevwe Ugwumba, said the law of the land would catch up with them as they are peddling false claims. Ugwumba, who spoke alongside the state commissioner for information, Hon. Chike Ogeah, in continuation of enlightenment fora for state information officers in the local government councils, restated the stand of medical experts that there is no cure for the disease as for as medical science is concerned at the moment. She said any one laying claim to having any solution to the disease in the state would be prosecuted following the laid down laws as the trado-medical practitioners was peddling lies with the intention of siphoning money from unsuspecting Deltans. Ugwumba described this group of persons as liars, saying, “Native doctors or traditional medicine practitioners cannot cure Ebola. They do not have the capacity to quarantine anybody. LEADERSHIP
